10 Reasons Your Closets Look Cluttered

Organizing makes a closet look better, but have you ever considered what makes it look messy and feel disorganized in the first place? I’ve seen people throw thousands of dollars at closet upgrades, only to see those gorgeous walk-in closets get trashed with the stuff that goes in it. You can have an organized closet in the most modest homes. Here are 10 reasons your closets look cluttered. Fix these things, and your closets will instantly look organized.

10 Reasons Your Closets Look Cluttered

  1. Piles and things on the floor
  2. Things hanging halfway off the shelves
  3. Various types of hangers mixed in together
  4. Hangers jutting out at different angles, as if they were on their way to somewhere
  5. Various container styles, shapes, and colors, especially broken cardboard
  6. Things in front of other things, especially things in front of cubbies or cabinets
  7. Plastic shopping bags, which make their contents disappear, and the whole thing just becomes a lump or, more usually, a pile of lumps
  8. Long and short hanging clothes, randomly mixed in together so the bottom edges are at varying heights, like a cityscape in reverse. (I like to hang dresses together, tops together, longer tops together, pants together, etc, and arrange them so they flow from one end of the closet to the other shortest to longest.
  9. Haphazard folding, with ragged edges showing
  10. Jumbled in piles of shoes or other accessories

This applies to all closets, from the largest to the smallest. By using SORT and Succeed to organize closets, you can end up with a really functional space.
