Need a change? Get a huge bang for the decorating buck by adding a sofa slipcover in an afternoon. Couch slipcovers can be the perfect antidote for post-holiday un-decorating. January isn’t just for organizing projects; it’s a perfect time to refresh your home. So take a break, relax for a minute, and dream up a big change like this slipcover couch going from green to blue.
Even though that couch may be perfectly good, with a lot of life left in its stuffing, you might just be ready for a change.
I love slipcovers. I’m a decorator, and I’m not afraid to say it. Slipcovers should absolutely not look like a sheet over your furniture. Good slipcovers cost around $100, and they can save you thousands versus prematurely replacing furniture with good bones and fluff.
Just a little planning and patience earns big rewards. Watch a few important details while ordering; pay attention to whether you have T-cushions or box cushions, and buy the corresponding style. Buy the right length, whether for a sofa or loveseat. If possible, buy slipcovers with separate pieces for the couch body and the cushions. Always aggressively tuck in around the cushions. I loved this navy duck fabric slipcover (as comfy as your favorite denim jeans) with crisp edge piping. Out of the package, it doesn’t look amazing.
All it took was some steaming and tucking to acheive a whole new look.
Here’s another sofa slipcover transformation from a very busy print to a family room darling.
My own living room is all slipcovers. The couch is a custom slipcover and the chairs are standard IKEA that come with slipcovers. Yep, that’s white furniture in a house with kids and a cat. I wash all the slipcovers twice a year, and they’ve held up great for over ten years.
My favorite slipcover source is right here in Pennsylvania. SureFit is my go to slipcover source. (affiliate link) They have dozens of beautiful fabric choices across many, many different styles. You might remember this home office makeover for a busy mom and her daughter. We’re picking out slipcovers to hide sofa damage done by the cats in the room next to her office. She requested swatches from SureFit, and we found the perfect compliment to the rug. It’s going to look great all put together. Stay tuned for that update.
Check out these form-fitting slipcovered chairs, too.
If you are really working hard to organize and spruce up your home this year, you might be able to splurge somewhere else and save on a new sofa by adding a form-fitting slipcover.
If you need a reward for your organizing efforts, a STEP 5 celebration for SORT and Succeed, a slipcover can be just the thing, as long as you get it out of the package and put it on your old sofa right away. Don’t let the package become clutter in the corner.
We use slipcovers all the time when we are staging. If it can work in million dollar homes, it can work in your home, too. What do you think?
