We’re organizing your entire house one space at a time this year, one each month, in our Facebook Clutter-free group. We’ve already peeked in an organized kitchen, which is the first room I recommend starting with. In January, I try to jump-start your process by showing you the rest of the house, too. Often, you need to organize your main storage area next…because if you don’t have storage space, everything else ends up out in the open. Am I right?
If your laundry is in the furthest corner of a dark basement, like most homes, you might have something like this. Poor lighting, an unfinished room, and all the odds and ends that clutter up a small space are pretty normal. Remember, I’m the strange gal who gets excited about seeing a room like this, because I know it can be SO MUCH BETTER, even without major construction.
Major Organizing Problems (Before):
- A dark space with peeling paint on the walls and floor, making the whole room feel a little dirty, no matter how clean it was.
- A HUGE cabinet right in the middle of the room, also a little icky, never used.
- Shelving on the left and two HUGE tool benches on the right, all overflowing with old DIY clutter and random stuff.
In this case, less is more!
Got shelves? Paint them to brighten them up.
So cute with the teal baskets from Target. (affiliate link)
Remember those tool benches? So much better painted white…
But we didn’t stop there. We added my favorite quick fix, EZ Faux Decor laminate in bright white marble. (affiliate link) You’ve seen me use this faux granite before in my kitchen and this kitchen, too.
Can you spot my favorite item here?
This adjustable bakeware organizer is divine. (affiliate link)
Look, no one loves to do laundry, but where we do it ought to be pretty, right?
For the cost of a paint job and some strategic organizing, this space is a whole lot more welcoming. Do you have a spot in your home that can use a tune-up like this one?
