Fall Front Porch with DIY Crates for Free

It’s time for fall decorating. But before we do that, take a moment to enter the giveaway for my LyveHome Photo Organizing and Backup giveaway, valued at $300. It’s ending this week, and I can’t wait for one of my readers to win one of these little packages of photo management awesomeness.

Pumpkins and mums work for the next two major holidays, so it’s a decorating slam dunk. Me, I can’t stand to “waste” money on real pumpkins, so I’ve re-used these craft pumpkins for the past few years. To give them a bit more presence, I whipped up these DIY crates from leftover pallet wood from my pallet lemonade stand, so they didn’t cost a thing!

This is the kind of project that is easy to knock out if you have the right tools. My Ryobi miter saw, the saw stand that I love so much, and my cordless nail gun all were contributing players here. I’m not going to give you a full tutorial, since I honestly used scraps and didn’t even sketch out a design for this. But here’s the gist:

trim pallet wood scraps to size

add sides to DIY crate

use nailer to add scrap slats to sides

I made 2 of these from scraps, and used them to showcase some fall color.

Great job!!! I love these crates…I pay a lot of money for crates just like these 🙂 I guess I should try making them!

Hi, Christine. Yes, it’s so easy to buy them, but so easy to make them, especially if you have a nail gun!
