Brown Sugar Saver

Remember when we were all getting ready for the Container Store to open? You might remember, the one thing I wanted was a good brown sugar holder. I was making this cookie dough recipe the other day (don’t judge me), and my brown sugar was as hard as a rock, even with my little sugar bear on duty. I softened it enough to get through the recipe, but moved up my need for the shopping trip.

Now, this may surprise some of you, but I do not have all matching containers with cute little chalkboard  labels. Really, I don’t. I replace things as they need to be replaced, not when the newest fad hits.

So my sugar bear moved from the little, yellowed 20-year old plastic tub that was just not doing it’s job over to his new home in the airtight, rubber-seal glass container. This jar has a nice wide opening, isn’t too heavy, and holds one whole bag of new brown sugar.

When it is time to upgrade, I try to buy the best I can afford (this jar set me back about $4), and you may as well make it cute, right?

Do you also have trouble keeping your brown sugar recipe-ready?

BTW, I’ve been super busy this week sending out prizes to recent winners. Paige B. is receiving the Get “Reel” about Your Home Movie Legacy book. AM R. all the way in Missouri is getting the Thompson’s Water Seal Fabric Seal.  And today I’ll be notifying the winner of the MOS cord organizer.

Be sure to enter for the Rust-Oleum Mirror Finish and the HomeRight Paint Stick.

What a great idea! I usually keep it in a ziplock bag and then pound it out with my rolling pin. this is so much less messy.

I love this idea. Not only does it probably work well, you get a workout at the same time.

    Darla,
This sugar bear is made to keep brown sugar soft? Never heard of it. Where to buy?

Sally, I’ve had mine so long I can’t remember where I bought it. But I’m sure you can find one at a kitchen store like Sur La Table or Kitchen Kapers.

I just picked up a brown sugar sun from Sur la Table. Thank you, Darla, for the tip!
