In Search of the Purfect Purse…Again

organizing purse

If you spot the perfect purse, please call me.  Must haves:

  • Slim profile, but large enough to hold my iPad mini
  • Long strap preferred (cross body construction)
  • Built in wallet that zips
  • Reasonably light construction.  Who wants a ten pound purse before you put anything in it?
  • A colorful interior. It’s already a black hole at the bottom, so let’s not literally make it a “black” hole.
  • Color would be nice, but nothing glittery, dripping with chains, or generally looking like it’s headed to the prom. Anything with a Jessica Simpson label is automatically out.
  • If I can’t have color, then please, black will do.  No taupe. {shudders}
  • I don’t do amphibians, faux or otherwise.
  • Price?  I’d like under $40 ideally, but could splurge up to $100 if I truly, truly adored it.

For years I carried around basically a wallet-on-a-string. Since adding a tablet to my must-have items, a mini-purse is now out. Rosetti was a decent brand, focusing on tons of interior compartments, but this season’s picks are oddly missing on their core value…organization.

Take a look at my top criteria these days: MUST HOLD IPAD.

Purse makers need to get on board with the idea that we aren’t just carrying phones now.  We want to carry our gadget babies (iPad, Nook, Kindle) while protecting them. So purses need to be just big enough to hold purse stuff and have a safe place for the gear. And while adding a pound or two for tech, I’ve got to lose it someplace else, which is why a built-in wallet is so fab.

I carried a Butler Bag for a while, but it wore out. That was when I started using a traditional wallet which weighs about 5 ounces.

Sadly, while I have a colorful interim purse for now, it has no built-in wallet.  So I’m trying something new.  I picked up this hot pink number at Khols for $12.  What shall we call it?  Mini-wallet?  Skeleton-wallet?  It’s got all the pockets of a wallet, but none of the bulk.  It weighs in at a mere 2 oz.

I’m loading it up now.  Wish me luck.

Rosetti, Coach, Croft & Barrow, Fossil, Target, Amy Butler, are you listening?

Do you have any tips on where to look for the perfect purse with tons of organization?

Friends swear by the Miche bags because you can easily swap out the exteriors, yet keep the inside (with all your essentials) the same. I found even the smallest too big for me. I’m like you — a wallet on a string would be ideal, as long as I can also fit my iPod and tiny cell phone.

You know, I just saw the Miche bags last week. Clever idea for fashionistas, but I need pockets, pockets and more pockets! Like you, I thought their small was too big, too. Sigh. I’ll keep looking.

They do sell an insert that has pockets, pockets, pockets and can be transferred to a different purse. The trouble is, the insert fills the small purse leaving no room for the iPad mini (or so it seems) and the next largest purse is much too big. Happy shopping.

Try Mosey bags… Look on Zappos.
    Expensive but worth every penny.
    Or, Sherpani.
