JBF Spring Consignment Sale- I’m In!

JBF Spring Consignment Sale- I’m In!

What do you think of when you hear children’s consignment sale?  I’m pretty sure, whatever you are thinking is way different than the awesomeness that goes on at the Just Between Friends Philly consignment sales each spring and fall. Organize and Consign with JBF

This sale happens only twice a year for just a few days, and I daresay is the highlight of the year for some moms. Why? Because children’s consignment sales combine the best of decluttering, earning money, saving money, and keeping your kids looking super cute and active in all their favorite hobbies.

I’ve been working with the sale for a few years, but I’ve been shopping the sale even longer. This year, I’m selling, too. Let’s bust a few myths to get you in on the fun.

Myth 1: It’s too late to participate. The JBF Philly sale takes place at Oaks this week, and if you are already thinking, “Shoot, I should have sold some stuff,” you still can! They take dropoffs on Tuesday, and there is a second drop off during the sale for non-clothing items. Plus, there is a Reading and a Lancaster sale in just a few weeks.

Myth 2: I don’t have time to buy a table and spend a whole day hawking my stuff. That is NOT how this sale works! You drop off your stuff. It sells. You get paid. Woohoo!

Myth 3: I don’t want someone else to decide on pricing. Good news! YOU make the decision about how to package, price, and even discount your goods on the final day, which is optional.

Myth 4: Getting ready takes a ton of time. Wellllll, truthfully decluttering the kid’s closets and toys might take a few hours, but it feels so GOOD! And you were going to do it anyway. Why not get paid for it?

Myth 5: Tagging my items takes time. Honestly, this one of many places where JBF shines. The tagging system is via computer, and you can even do it on your mobile device. I tagged about 15 items last night in less than 15 minutes, and it goes even faster if you have a large batch of things that are all in the same category and size. For me, there’s $65 of clutter headed out the door this week, and I have some high-value electronics still to add to the batch.

Myth 6: Dropping off my stuff takes time. You’ll be doing a happy dance on Tuesday when you declutter your house and drop off your stuff at Oaks. There are people and racks and wagons to help you get all of your loot from your car to the sale floor. Everything is very organized. They recommend that you plan for about an hour at drop off.

Myth 7: I won’t really make any money. Consignors at JBF Philly earn 60% of their gross sales, less an $11 consignor fee. If you volunteer to help with the sale, you can make even more. The average consignor at JBF makes over $300 each sale. Some people make thousands. That’s Disney money, folks.

Myth 8: I’d rather donate my goods. At the end of the sale, your items that don’t sell can be donated right from JBF. They will even send you a donation receipt to use for tax purposes. So, you get the best of both worlds. You get cash almost immediately, to use to keep those growing kids clothed this year, and you get the tax benefit when you file your taxes next spring. Myth 9: Consignment is only for little kids. This sale goes all the way up to junior sizes, and many kids and teens get involved in helping their families with the sale. Those fancy mall brands look so much better at consignment sale prices. It’s also a great way to encourage a teen to declutter and work for their own spending money.

Myth 10: Consignment sales seem kind of junky. Don’t say that to my kids! Honestly, this is pretty much the only place I shop for my kids clothes, including their Easter dresses. I think we do pretty well. Come see for yourself.

Kids Can Feel Overwhelmed, Too!

Kids Can Feel Overwhelmed, Too!

This post is sponsored by the Just Between Friends Children’s Consignment Sale Philly, running this week, March 19-22. You know that feeling of overwhelm, when you stand in a room (or sit at your desk) and think, “I just don’t know what to do first!?!” Kids can have the exact same feelings. That feeling of… Continue Reading
