Book Review: Everyone Loves Organization Hacks

Who doesn’t love a good organization hack? That moment that you find a way to make something more simple, elegant and efficient, all at the same time? My friend, Carrie Higgins, has just published an entire book of Organization Hacks: Over 350 Simple Solutions to Organize Your Home in No Time, and I’m honored to review it.

Organization Hacks: Over 350 Simple Solutions to Organize Your Home In No Time By Carrie Higgins, review

Carrie Higgins has been offering inspiration at MakingLemonadeBlog.com for years. She started out in the Philly area, where I got to know her, before her family moved down south a couple of years ago. Most people look at moving as a chore. Like a woman after my own heart, she looked at moving as a chance to organize ALL THE THINGS!

Her new book is beautiful and a quick read. The book outlines many quick ways to make things more visible, easier to clean, and prettier with these organizing hacks. Skill level ranges from dead-easy to medium-DIY.

If you pick up this book, or any like it, I recommend that you not just breeze through the tips, but actually pick one or two from each chapter and start using them! The next time you decide to organize a closet, for example, do yourself a favor and come back to this book and try something new. Organizing solutions that might not have worked for you in your last house or before you had kids might – all of the sudden – make a whole lot of sense for the way you live right now.

Carrie and I have a lot in common, and you’ll see some of the same tips in her book like you see here on this blog such as:

Baskets turned into bathroom towel storage, p79.

Frames repurposed as desk memo boards (or wifi password boards for guest rooms), p127.

Drawers repurposed as rolling storage for under beds or closet bottoms, p154.

One really lovely thing about the book are the clever illustrations. They are just enough to give you and idea of the organizing solution, but not an image from some million-dollar home that you can’t hope to acheive on your own. These organization hacks will work if your home if big or small, grand or humble, old or new.

You don’t actually have to be a DIY-er, but if you want to try your hand a some simple craft projects that can also get you organized, Carrie’s step-by-step directions for for things like bathtub toy holders, decor boxes to store remote controls and framed dry erase message boards are a good place to start. But if you aren’t a DIY-er, good news, you can most likely buy the pre-fab version and still get points for organizing. 🙂 More likely, you have already bought these items in the past, and now you’ll be able to put them to work, organizing your home.

Carrie’s book Organization Hacks just came out this month, so head over and pick up a fresh new copy while you are doing your Christmas shopping. Or just pin her to add to your reading list.
